At the end of this program you will be able to:
- Understand recruiting processes. Write job descriptions and create effective job advertisements
- Assess and evaluate candidates. Shortlist and interview potential farm employees
- Apply best practices around employment practices; payroll and compliance
- Create and implement onboarding strategies for new farm employees
- Understand performance reviews and approaches for retaining staff including coaching
- Make informed decisions around employee termination and ensure compliance obligations met

Before you start
Before you start the program, reflect on where you are currently with your staff management practices.
Download and populate the People Snapshot tool to analyse your understanding and ability to manage staff. Document your results and hold onto them. We will revisit this at the end of the course. -
Key legal documents that govern this course
There are several key documents that you need to be aware of and reference for Human Resources (HR) and Industrial Relations (IR) matters in relation to your farm business. They can be accessed through these links:

- Pastoral Award 2020 (focussing on Broad Acre Farming section)
- Fair Work Information Statement
- Casual Employment Information Statement

Throughout this module, you will be referencing these documents so become familiar with the layout of each. Every decision you make will need to take these documents into account.

Tracy Lloyd brings over 25 years’ experience working with employers on workforce issues across a range of sectors including the dairy industry. Tracy has worked for the Victorian Apprenticeship Commission to support employers and their apprentices and managed a successful team of remote trainers across Australia to deliver workplace training for various industry sectors including the national rollout of the Euthanize Livestock program for Dairy Australia. Tracy has a passion for good governance, industry training and recruitment.Di Gresham
Di Gresham has a varied dairy industry background both over 20 years as a dairy farmer and more recently as an advisor on HR and WHS topics. Her experience includes holding a number of industry roles in addition to the delivery of an extensive range of programs including computer training and the rollout of the Young Dairy Network nationally. Di enjoys supporting farmers as they navigate their way through strengthening their on-farm compliance and employee management.
